Doyenne du Comice

Appearance: Comice has a chubby shape with a short defined neck and a short stem. The skin is green when picked, turning greenish-yellow as the pear ripens with conspicuous lenticels.

Owner of variety: This pear originated as a chance seedling in France and was introduced to South Africa at the turn of the century.

Taste and texture: The flesh is white and extremely smooth and soft. The flavour is aromatic, very sweet and exceptionally juicy. It is a superlative eating pear, but is not recommended for cooking.
