SA National Farmer of the Year 2010 ( Monday 13 December 2010 )

One of Capespan's Export Partners won coveted 2010 Farmer of the Year award.
We are proud to announce that ALG Estates has just been awarded South Africa's most coveted agricultural prize namely National Farmer of the Year 2010. This annual award, now presented for the 33rd consecutive year in South Africa, is granted by the Association of Agricultural Writers SA, an affiliate of the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFA).
ALG Estates was chosen as the winner from the finalists of the nine provinces of South Africa. The selection was done on the strength of documentary presentations made by each finalist to six independent judges. These judges are newly appointed each year to represent the various sectors of the agricultural trade, commerce and academia. Awards are made according to points allocated in six categories namely history and growth of the operation; biological productivity; hedging against all forms of risks; maintenance and management of natural resources; economic viability; and social responsibility and guardianship.
ALG expressed their thanks to everyone from the workers in our orchards to our suppliers and marketing teams all over the world for their contribution towards this outstanding achievement. Please visit our dedicated website www.farmeroftheyear.co.za to find out more about our accolade.
