From Africa with love ( Thursday 31 May 2007 )

From Africa with love From leopards to rhinos, the African menagerie is back with a vengeance – courtesy the new OUTSPAN sales campaign. Every time consumers around the world eat fresh, juicy Outspan citrus this year; they'll be reminded of sunshine, the African bush and adventure. The Outspan name originated in the African bush, because at an 'uitspan' (a place where wagons used to stop to water animals and weary travellers could refresh themselves), this famous fruit brand was first used. Nearby, African animals were roaming. In 2007, the Outspan brand will again be promoting its message of the 'ultimate source of refreshment', linking it to the exotic African animals.

Since the 1930s, Outspan has been the brand of choice for people around the world. This is demonstrated by the fact that citrus growers in other supplier countries increasingly prefer to pack their products under the Outspan brand. Since the first Outspan oranges were shipped to Britain in 1936, billions of fruit carrying this name have been sold across the world.

From the 1970s, unique promotions programmes, such as the annual visit of the South African Outspan girls in their orange cars, resulted in massive publicity in the United Kingdom. By the mid-90s Outspan had achieved such a degree of brand value that it was rated among the top 300 international brands in the world. It remains an icon among global fruit brands, representing healthy fun, grown in harmony with nature and by people who love the produce business.

The anthropomorphic sight of animals enjoying life with this refreshment is set to capture imaginations around the world. Capespan's oranges, grapefruit and lemons – sourced throughout the world - are offered to the world as Outspan - zesty, enthusiastic, lively and exuberant. Funky, youthful, but also extrovert – that's OUTSPAN!
