Winter Weather Hits South Africa ( Wednesday 23 May 2007 )

Winter Weather Hits South Africa South Africa is not a place one associates with snow! On the contrary, the country is renowned for its sunshine and fine beach weather. Who would have thought that the seaside resort of Plettenberg Bay on the 'Garden Route' would look like a town on the coast of Maine in the United States.

This week, most of South Africa is in the grip of some very cold weather, with snow reported in many places and severe frosts on the higher altitude locations such as Johannesburg.

While this may be unpleasant for the average South African who is not usually geared for this type of weather, it is good news for citrus farmers. Cold weather means good color on the navels and clementines that are being harvested right now. Therefore customers in the northern hemisphere can look forward to South African citrus with a deep orange color.
